The Loop frame is unique among the Wi-Fi-connected models we've reviewed in that it allows multiple family members to drop photos into its library from their phone and then watch those photos appear on mom and dad's frame, hundreds or even thousands of miles away. It's a great feature for gifting these frames to family members, especially if you don't live close by.

Non-Wi-Fi digital photo frames can be controlled via a dedicated app or a USB or SD card but require direct access to the frame and its internal storage. They may also need to be plugged in to a power outlet, if it doesn't have its own built-in battery.

A few of the models we've reviewed, such as the Loop and the Pixel 2 Smart Frame, have a feature called "Smart Photo Album" that lets you sync your entire photo collection with your frame. This is a nice feature but requires that everyone you want to view your photos have the app as well, so it's not the most convenient option.
